Touch Browser - Manual
TouchBrowser lets you surf the web in iPhone-style. It lets you control everything using only your fingers. You can type using the large keyboard, glide through web content, scroll through pages with a flick, with full page view.

How does it work?

When you start, you will be taken to the default home page. You may drag the page around using your finger, or the stylus. For best results, use your fingernail to move the browser, because you have more precise control. You may click on links, like you would normally do, to go to another webpage. You can watch pages in portrait or lansdcape mode.

If you accidently clicked a link, press the back button. This will stop loading the new page and take you back to the previous page.

What are the menu items?

The menu will automatically show and hide, but you can also manually show and hide it by pressing the navigation hardware key up and down. You may set the time that it takes for the menu to show, in the preferences menu.

The menu has six functions:

  • Back - Navigates back to the previous page.
  • Search - lets you type in keywords and perform a direct search in Google
  • URL - lets you type in a URL with the large touch keys
  • Mobile View - lets you switch to a single column view. If a site is designed for mobile use, use this switch to get the best layout.
  • Settings - let's you adjust settings (see below)
  • closes the program (when double-clicked)

history

When you press the down-arrow when typing on the keyboard, you get a history of the 10 last URLS you entered.

auto-suggest

When you press the Google (questionmark) button, you are taken to the large keyboard. Any word you enter is used as a keyword in a direct Google search. When you type on a real hardware keyboard, and you have Windows Mobile 6, you will also see words as you type (auto-suggestion feature).

What does the pop-up menu do?

When you press and hold on the screen, you will see a pop-up menu, which allows you to do the following:

popup menu

  • Select all text on a page
  • Go to previous page (optional)
  • Refresh page content
  • Choose a favourite or bookmark
  • Add to favourites/bookmarks
  • Copy the selected text (optional)
  • Fullscreen (optional)
  • Zoom Out (only on Windows Mobile 6.1)
  • Zoom Level (only on Windows Mobile 6.1)

Your bookmarks may be managed from this pop-up menu and they are synchronised with the Pocket Internet Explorer bookmarks. Any bookmark added in PIE, is automatically added in TouchBrowser and vice versa.

Zoom Level controls the font size of the text displayed on the webpages. This feature is only available on devices running Windows Mobile 6,1 or higher. A medium font size is the default. When you pick the smallest font size, it allows you to view up to 3 times as much content on the page, compared to the largest font size.
